Tuition - $445.00 per participant

COVID - As a part of COVID 19 measures and student protection ALL students are required to purchase a $25 COVID pack which includes (3 x surgical masks, safety glasses and 250ml hand sanitiser). WFAA does not allow sharing of sanitiser and safety equipment via community sharing.

Times -      ALL students are required to enrol at 7.45am Day 1 of the course.

Course details:

Remote area personnel and outdoor trip leaders often require a more extensive training program than an Urban First Aid course. The WFAA Remote First Aid course will give you extended knowledge and skills to deal with situations that may occur whilst in a remote location.

This three day course is compacted and focuses on stabilisation, treatment and evacuation guidelines of patients in remote & backcountry environments. More emphasis is placed on long term patient care management and specific injury evaluation.

The WFAA three day Remote First Aid course utilses theoretical and practical knowledge and skills as a means to ensuring all participants are deemed competent should they have to respond to an emergency situation.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS ONLINE PRE COURSE WORK THAT WILL NEED TO BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE COURSE COMMENCEMENT.

NOTE: The Safe Work Australia First Aid Model Code of Practice requires employers to ensure that their nominated first aiders attend training on a regular basis to remain current. The Code of Practice recommends that refresher training in CPR/AED should be undertaken annually from the date of issue and first aid qualification should be renewed every three years from the date of issue to maintain currency.

Assessment:

Students will undergo:

• Online pre-course and test
• CPR/AED practical test
• RFA practical test (ongoing)

Wilderness First Aid Australia (WFAA) delivers nationally accredited training on behalf of: Australian Institute of Leadership and Safety (AILS) RTO # 45354 https://www.ails.edu.au

Upon successful completion of all assessment tasks, you will be issued with a Recognised Training Organisation certificate from Australian Institute of Leadership and Safety (AILS) valid for 3 years (CPR/AED must be updated annually).

To ensure ALL students get the most out of their learning participants should bring ALL their own personal equipment (not limited to the list below) to gain a lot stronger understanding and familiarity with how to respond in an emergency situation.

What to Bring (minimum)

• Warm/appropriate clothing to be outside. Please DO NOT wear your best outdoor clothing and gear as you will be outside on the ground and stage makeup will be used.
• Sleeping bag
• Foam mat, Thermorest, insulation
• Wet weather gear
• Small tarp, tent flye, hootchi, (some sort of shelter protection)
• Sun protection – 30+SPF/Zinc
• Water bottle
• Backpack
• Pen, paper
• Watch/timer (displaying seconds)
• 2 x spare jumpers and t-shirts for padding for splints
• Daypack, walking poles, paddles - gear you would normally have with you outdoors that you can use to improvise splints

To maximise participant learning ensure you wear OLD clothing, it may be a good idea to source clothing from a second hand clothing or ‘Opportunity Shop’ beforehand.Throughout the course we use stage makeup and it states that it does not stain clothing/material this may not always be the case.

• This course is self catered, please bring a packed lunch and snacks, as breaks are short and most venues do not have food available close by.
